Review of Cigar Saveur – A Cigar Curation Club

Stogie Specs

Some of you may be asking, what the heck is a Cigar Curation club? I know I certainly asked myself that when I was writing this. The truth is that Cigar Saveur is something different than your typical cigar of the month club. From what I can tell they’re not trying to offload excess inventory or anything like that. If you watch their intro video they even speak to that fact. So that’s how I ended up on the term “Cigar Curation Club”. They say that they curate cigars and help create a smoking experience. So let’s dive a bit deeper into what that means. (Also, we’re doing a giveaway for a month trial of Cigar Saveur, so click this link to check it out)

Personally, I’ve never been one to sign up for a monthly club and have things shipped to me. For some reason it never had the appeal to me. This is especially true with cigars, I love the feeling of going to my local tobacconist and picking out the latest smokes, and always picking up few of my old standbys. That’s just how I’ve always done it. I’m also very fortunate to have so many locals shops around Nashville to go and walk through to see what’s new.

However, I was intrigued when I first saw Cigar Saveur come on the scene a few months ago. It was interesting to see what they were doing. I’ve been seeing the boxes and the content that they’ve been releasing and I have to say, I’ve been impressed!

The concept is fairly simple right. On the outside it looks like a cigar of the month club. You sign up, pay a monthly fee and you’re shipped cigars. However, I feel like that is probably where the similarities stop. As I said above, I’ve never been a COTM club guy. But from what I’ve seen from the team Cigar Saveur it looks like they take it up a notch.

Cigar Saveur - Box

First lets take a look at the packaging of this month’s box. On the outside, you get a simple gray box with their logo splashed right in the center. When you see this box in your mailbox you start getting excited because you know that there is going to be something inside that you can’t wait to smoke.

Once you open the box you get a nice clean packaging with white tissue paper wrapping something delicious. Again there in the middle is their logo as a sticker / envelop seal keeping the packaging nice and minimal. It feels like I’m opening up an Apple product at this point which is kind of awesome not gonna lie. So kudos to whoever designed this packaging over there.

I went ahead and picked up the white tissue bulk and ripped the paper to shreds like it was a Christmas gift that I was opening the night before the big day. Behind all that tissue paper are 4 perfectly humidified cigars in a nice clear plastic wrapping. Safe and secure, unlike some other cigar packages that I’ve received in the past where the cigars have been broken or punctured. These look fantastic.

The next thing that really impressed me was what was behind the cigars. This neat little piece of information that gave you details and insight into each cigar. A close up head shot of each one of the cigars and their bands. Then to the left the name of the blend, the strength, and the blend specifics to each cigar. Below that is a nice informative blurb about each cigar in the box. To me this sets Cigar Saveur apart from your COTM clubs. They take it the extra mile to give you more information and details about your cigars. They can also serve as mini reviews or bite sized knowledge to share with your buddies at the cigar shop.

Clearly this is a great product, and a great service. So that leads us to the next question. What’s the price and is it worth it? From taking a look at their site the cost for each month’s subscription is $43.98 for domestic and $49.98 for Int’l shipping. So breaking it down you’re paying around $10 for each cigar and the $3.99 for shipping. All in all, not a bad price at all. I easily spend that each time I go to the cigar shop on cigars alone. Most of my purchases are over $11 / cigar. Not to mention the gas to get there.

The next question that I naturally would ask, is it worth it? I honestly believe so! I think it’s a great product at a good price. Their track record of previous boxes looks like some fantastic smokes. You can check out their Facebook page and see some of their previous boxes. Each one of them has at least 2 cigars that I haven’t smoked. So that’s very exciting for me as a consumer. It means they’re picking out things that I haven’t had a chance to try, or aren’t available locally here in Nashville.

The final thoughts on this product… I definitely think everyone should give it a try. I know I plan on it. The team over at Cigar Saveur was incredibly gracious and sent me this box as a sample to try it out and see what I thought. I’m honestly a big fan! I’ve gotta clear it with the boss of finances here at the house, but I think it’s a great service that they’re offering and I plan on signing up and so should you! Go check them out at CigarSaveur.com, we’d love to hear your thoughts down below in the comments as well if you’ve used this service!
