Mi Amor by Aroma de Cuba paired with Ridgemont Reserve

Aroma De Cuba Mi Amor Magnifico & 1792 Ridgemont Reserve

Stogie Specs

Appearance and Construction:

This is a very well put together box pressed cigar.  In my experience, a box pressed cigar will usually have a more intensified taste then one that is not pressed.  The Mexican wrapper, spawned from Cuban seed, is incredibly smooth with very few veins present.  The stick has a nice balance and weight to it.  There are no soft spots and the foot is nicely packed.

Pre-Light:

The pre-light draw gives a sweet preview of mocha and molasses while the foot serves up some spice and a surprise hint of peppermint to the nose.  With a remarkably easy draw it is evident that this is going to be a fantastic cigar.

First Third:

Once the cigar is lit there is some of that spice I noticed in the pre-light, but it isn’t in abundance.  As the spice fades the stick becomes notably smooth while the mocha continues to develop.  The smoke is very dense and aromatic.  A sip of the Ridgemont 1792 transforms the mocha flavors into a rich creamy milk chocolate.

Second Third:

The second third of the stick maintains some spice especially through the nose, but the mocha begins to emerge as the dominant note.  There is an astonishing consistency with the smoothness of this cigar.  The 1792 actually brings out some of the spice on the back end of the palate which is a pleasant change to the smoothness on the front.

Final Third:

The final third has some notes of earth, dark chocolate, and leather that leave you wishing this stick would never end.  Still consistent in smoothness the flavors become more intense.  The 1792 has opened up now that the ice has completely melted mellowing the heat of the smoke just enough to keep that creamy milk chocolate on the tip of the palate.

Conclusion:

This Mi Amor has the perfect name as it is definitely a new love of mine.  This cigar is nothing short of superb. After you smoke one you will definitely fall in love with the cigar based on its creamy smoothness, consistency, and easy draw.  The 1792 was the perfect companion to the Mi Amor.  The creamy vanilla and caramel notes in this small batch bourbon bring out the best in the Mi Amor’s arsenal of flavors.  This pairing is definitely one I will repeat again.
